On this Day in Weather History...
In 1969, what is known as the Ohio Fireworks Derecho raked the south shores of Lake Erie with winds that reached 100 to 105 mph. Eighteen people were killed, around 100 boats destroyed and thousands of trees were uprooted, around 5,000 in Toledo alone. In 1987, thunderstorms produced 82 mph gusts in Clearwater Kansas. Eight inches of rain fell in 4 hours at Menno South Dakota, with 3 inches in just 15 minutes in Austin Kentucky.
