Fewest Issued May Watches Since 1992

| May 2009 will go
down in the books as a relatively inactive period with respect to NWS/SPC
Watch issuances. Normally, May is one of the most active months for Severe
Thunderstorm and Tornado Watch issuances with an average of 138 total
watches issued since 1970. May 2009 had only 100 watches issued, or around
70% of a normal May. This is the fewest numbers of Watches issued since
1992. |
