This is a four-panel display showing storm-relative
velocity map (SRM) data over south-central Indiana. In this image, all
panels represent data at the same time, but at four different radar elevation angles.
The upper left (lower right) panel shows data at the lowest (highest)
altitude. For more information on WSR-88D velocity data, consult
"Overview
of the WSR-88D Radar System." Red (green) colors are winds directed
away from (toward) the radar site (not shown, but located to the south of
(below) the image area). The image shows low-level storm-relative inflow
(light red colors over eastern Washington County) directed into a supercell
mesocyclone (red-green rotational couplet) along the Jackson-Washington
County border that produced a tornado. At high altitudes (lower right),
storm top divergence is suggested. |
