Surface data is shown in this image on
the AWIPS graphical monitor. Each station plot shows temperature,
dewpoint, wind direction and speed, pressure, present weather,
and sky coverage. Overlaid on the surface plot is 15 minute lightning
strike data (small marks in image). Although hard to see here,
lightning from thunderstorms is evident over southwest and northeast
Mississippi and in middle Tennessee. Multiple plots can be loaded
so that the forecaster can easily increment through several hours
of surface and lightning data (or other data combinations) as
desired to assess temporal changes. |
