October Wrap-Up

It was a cold and wet October throughout the region, with average monthly temperatures running as much as 4 degrees below normal and up to 350% of normal rainfall.  The heaviest rains fell generally north of the Bluegrass Parkway and west of I-65, where several locations recorded more than 10 inches of precipitation.

The only significant storm event of the month took place on the 9th.  A powerful cold front swept in from the northwest and sparked numerous thunderstorms throughout the region.  Many reports of hail were received from southern Indiana, and high winds were observed in central and northern Kentucky.   An EF0 tornado touched down briefly in Breckinridge County at 2:20 in the morning, followed by a pair of EF2 tornadoes about twelve hours later in Monroe and Casey Counties.  Fortunately there were no deaths or injuries.
